Westfield High School (WHS)
The start for the 2013-2014 School Year
BYOD is a program at Westfield High School that we, along with Vice Principal Mrs. Asfendis that will eventually allow kids to bring in their device and teachers would incorporate that into the lessons on a day to day bases. There are around 7 classes involved in this program and a few individual persons doing individual study's. These students and classes get a special wifi for BYOD. This program is a start to move forward and a way to easy in to the way of learning and so we can figure out logistics. We also get feedback from these classes and teachers on issues or advancements.
Steps forward for the 2014-2015 School Year
Westfield High School and the whole district are making create strides toward our goal, going paperless. The first new aspect, and alternate policy #1, is a district wide email account for every student in the high school. The email will be through gmail but will end in "@westfieldnjk12.org" like all the teachers have. This will allow for mass emails, individual conversation between teacher and students and allow to use google docs and other google applications. The second new aspect that will come into play, and that has already somewhat come into play, in the 2013-2014 year, is a new website server or layout. The whole district have switched to new websites that make it more interactive and useful for the students. One great feature is the new calendar system that this server provides to us along with the gmail and google calendars. Each teacher will have a separate calendar for each class were, depending on the teacher, they can post test dates, project due dates, homework, etc.
